It’s hard to believe this is actually a thing, but in the age of viral YouTube videos nothing comes as a complete surprise. Health authorities are warning against the Tide Pod Challenge – a trend among teenagers who post videos of themselves or their friends biting into laundry detergent pods. The attraction – besides low-level notoriety on the internet – is that the pods look like candy. The effect, however, is anything but sweet, with dozens of cases of hospitalization reported for symptoms ranging from diarrhea to vomiting to breathing difficulties. No deaths have been directly attributed to the craze, but poison is poison, and in the right circumstances and amount, it can be deadly. Stick to real candy, kids. (Photo credit: USA Today)
What should Tide PODs be used for? DOING LAUNDRY. Nothing else.
Eating a Tide POD is a BAD IDEA, and we asked our friend @robgronkowski to help explain. pic.twitter.com/0JnFdhnsWZ
