Peter Schiefke Tours Saint-Polycarpe Train Derailment Site

The cleanup of  Monday evening’s train derailment in St-Polycarpe is expected to take at least one week.

More than 20 cars, some of them carrying liquid propane and diesel fuel, left the tracks with a couple of them ending up in a river.

There were no spills save for a minor leak from a car carrying vegetable oil that was quickly contained.

Local Federal MP, Peter Schiefke toured the site yesterday and later issued a statement.

In it, he said that the safety of area residents is paramount during the cleanup and repair operations and that he remains in contact with the Minister of Transport (Hon. Marc Garneau).

Mr. Schiefke also mention that the last time the track in the area was inspected by Transport Canada was about a year and a half ago (Jan. 25, 2017).

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
