The Surete du Quebec is warning area residents of fraudsters who pose as motorists stranded at the side of the road.
When someone stops to help, they are asked for gas money and often will be given fake jewelry in exchange.
The SQ’s Sgt. Stéphane Tremblay says people should still help each other, but exercise caution as well.
He adds; “Don’t take a deal that is too good to be true”.
Sgt. Tremblay suggests that if you encounter someone who seems to be broken down at the side of the road, you should offer to call Police or a towing service for them.
So far there have been several victims of the fraud reported in Île-Perrot, Hudson and Valleyfield.
