Lest We Forget

It was a gratifying weekend of remembrance for the Jewel 106.7 FM morning team. Tom Whelan and I were honoured to be guests at the Royal Canadian Legion branch 115 in Hudson for their annual Remembrance dinner, where we broke bread with Father Roland Demers and 99 year old World War Two frontline nurse Maxine Bredt, among other distinguished Hudsonites. Earlier in the day, I was invited to the annual veterans’ breakfast at Legion branch 119 in Kahnawake, where I renewed acquaintances with branch President Ray Deer (Royal Montreal Regiment and U.S. Army) and got to shake the hand of Robert Montour, who served with the U.S. Army in the Korean conflict (1950-53). Humbling as always to meet these giants among men and women.
