Ranging from US$1,000 to US$6,000, Costco’s emergency food kits, delivered to customers “discreetly” (according to the retailer) on a pallet, are designed to feed a family of four for a year, Based on a 2,000-calories per day diet for the average person, its 600 cans could sustain four people for a year. In contrast, the cheapest kit is designed to feed one person for a year at 1,200 calories per day.
