Canadian Frigate Honours Humboldt

The members of the HMCS Regina’s Air detachment decided to honour the Humboldt Broncos hockey team by naming their new patrol helicopter “Bronco”.

The Regina is patrolling the Indian Ocean looking for drugs and weapons traffickers and the crew wanted to have a piece of home with them.

Major Jason Newton, the ship’s air officer said “It was a really good opportunity to support not only the players and the families as well as the city but it also gave us some determination and something to strive towards.”

Members of the air crew also wear Bronco’s inspired patches on their uniforms.

The frigate’s commander backed the idea saying it was particularly appropriate especially considering the ship’s ties to Saskatchewan.
