Canada’s transport minister is offering reassurances that The new Champlain
bridge will be safe to open next December despite a
published report that some two-thousand defects have been found in
parts manufactured by a Spanish company.
Marc Garneau says the parts that make up the new Bridge to the south shore
are inspected, and any non-conformities are rejected or
repaired before they are used for the bridge.
Garneau says the bridge “is in good hands” and that the
4.2-billion-dollar bridge will be built within cost and on schedule.
