Social media users are paying a unique tribute to Humboldt, Saskatchewan.
Over the past 24 hours people have started sharing photos of hockey sticks left on front porches with the hash tag #sticksoutforhumboltd in honour of the 15 lives lost.
It’s not known exactly where the trend began but, among the first posts the sentiment was expressed that “the boys may need the sticks wherever they are”.
Regardless of who started it or where it started, it is a touching tribute, one to which everyone, particularly hockey players and their loved ones can relate.
The tragedy has captured the world’s attention as well.
Ukraine’s National Hockey team went to the Canadian Embassy in Kyiv and left flowers in front of the building to honour the young men with whom they share a common bond.
A GoFundMe page has raised nearly 6.7-million dollars for the survivors and for the families of those who lost loved ones.
